Ordination / License
To record a Certificate of Ordination, License to perform marriages, or Letter of Authorization to perform marriages, you will need to provide the County Recorder with the following:
As of August 1, 2009
~ Provide one of the following:
1. Certificate of Ordination, or
2. License to perform marriages, or
3. Letter of Authorization to perform marriages (From church leaders of certain religious denominations)
~ Completed Certificate of Filing form (Available from our office or click on downloadable form at bottom of this page)
~ Driver's License for identification and age verification - Must be 21 years of age or older to perform marriages in Minnesota
~ Fee of $20.00 cash or check made payable to McLeod County Recorder.
OTHER STATE-WIDE INFORMATION:
*In order to perform Marriages in this State, a Certificate of Ordination, License to perform marriages, or Letter of Authorization to perform marriages (From church leaders of certain religious denominations) must be filed in any County within the State of Minnesota.
*A Minnesota marriage license can only be used within the geographical boundaries of Minnesota.
*Persons authorized to perform a marriage ceremony in Minnesota are required to assure that the couple has obtained a Minnesota marriage license and that the individuals appearing before them are the persons named on the marriage license.
*The Educator's Statement (required with a reduced fee marriage license) must be signed by the established educator, dated, notarized and appear on the educator's letterhead in order to be accepted.
*Local Registrars are allowed to charge a fee of $100 if the officiant fails to file the marriage certificate within five days of the marriage.
