June 2022 Message

July is one of my favorite months in Seguin (minus the 105+ degrees!) because it’s a time when our hometown shines its American pride the brightest. It’s a time when the entire community comes together to celebrate USA’s independence in true Seguin fashion – with Freedom Fiesta and a patriotic concert to spectacular fireworks and topping it off with our “Biggest Small-Town 4th of July Parade!

This year’s festivities kick-off with the opening of the 4th Annual Field of Honor at 10 am on Saturday, July 2 at Faith Lutheran Church, 1326 E. Cedar. This is a wonderful addition to our line-up of events. More than 1,000 US flags will be on display from July 2 through July 9 in honor of military, Veterans, the fallen, firefighters, police, and Emergency Medical Service providers. It is a very touching and awe-inspiring sight to see the field illuminated after dark. Roxanne Heckmann will be playing taps each evening at 7 pm.

Local radio station KWED 1580 is hosting Freedom Fiesta in Central Park Saturday, July 2. The festivities begin at 6 pm with a Kiddie Parade hosted by the Republican Women – it is heart -lifting to see all the decorated motorized and non-motorized entries and the children driving them! There will be food trucks, vendors, a band, dancing, and lots of visiting. All are welcome!

On Sunday, July 3, the Seguin Main Street Program is sponsoring a patriotic concert in Central Park at 7 pm with music by the San Antonio Symphonic Band.

Later that evening, our amazing fireworks fiesta will light up the sky beginning at 9:30 pm at Max Starcke Park. KWED 1580 will once again be playing patriotic music during the 20-minute display. The Seguin Parks Department guarantees this year’s show to be the best and biggest one yet! I want to recognize and thank our sponsors H-E-B, Niagara Bottling and Tiejin Automotive Technologies for helping to make this event possible! For the past several years, the City’s fireworks display has been held on July 3rd, giving family and friends an opportunity to enjoy more fireworks and fun on the 4th.

On Monday, July 4, the day begins with a flag raising ceremony at 9 am at Central Park. The Guadalupe Valley Young Marines and local dignitaries will be participating. There will also be music and mariachi performances by members of Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin. The 4th of July festivities culminate with the Biggest Small-Town 4th of the July Parade getting underway at 10 am. In celebration of their 40th anniversary in our community, students, directors, and members of Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin are serving as this year’s parade grand marshal.

I hope all of you have a happy and safe 4th of July holiday with family and friends. I am very grateful that we live in a great country and town where we can celebrate freedom together as a community!
