The City of Camilla operates under a council-manager form of local government that combines the political leadership of an elected Mayor and Council with the managerial experience of an appointed City Manager. As chief administrative officer, the City Manager is directly responsible for the efficient administration of all city departments. The duties and powers of the City Manager include but are not limited to enforcing all laws and ordinances; appointing/dismissing department heads; recommending ordinances, resolutions, and regulations for efficient operations; preparing the annual budget; keeping the Mayor and Council fully advised of city affairs; and other such duties as required by ordinance or resolution of the Mayor and Council.

To fulfill these duties, the City Manager is assisted by an organization of fourteen city departments. The talent and skills of approximately 100 city employees are under the direction of ten department heads appointed by and responsible to the City Manager. As a full service city, this team of employees, under the leadership of the City Manager, are ultimately responsible for ensuring goals are achieved in the most efficient and cost-effective way for the citizens of Camilla.
