Yes the Register of Deeds Office is open to the public. Please be sure your documents are ready to record before coming into the office, including any tax certifications on Land Contracts and Warranty deeds. These tax certifications can be obtained by the County Treasurers Office.
We also ask that you please wear a face mask if your health allows it. Thank you.

The first Constitution of the State of Michigan was adopted by the United States Congress in 1835 establishing the Register of Deeds as the official recording office for all legal documents and instruments pertaining to the transfer and encumbrance of real property (land) located within each county. The duties and responsibilities of the Register of Deeds Office are established by state law to include recording, indexing and retaining documents that convey or encumber real estate located within the County.

Just a reminder that our documents are only proofed from August 1, 1987 to effective date list on the Tyler Eagle system.
All Warranty Deeds, Land Contracts, and any document that needs a tax certification must obtain the certification stamp prior to recording at the Register of Deeds Office. (MCLA 211.135)
